About Teresa Edge
Teresa Edge is more than a business owner — she’s a registered nurse with decades of experience in hospitals, long-term care, and even as director of nursing in a facility serving over 1,000 clients. Throughout her career, she saw firsthand how the healthcare system often failed those who needed it most.
When Teresa took a home care job years ago to help pay for her daughter’s college, she was shocked by what she witnessed: neglect, poor standards, and families left without real support. She knew her patients deserved better. With her background running a large nursing home, Teresa realized she could create something stronger — a home care agency built on compassion, professionalism, and true commitment to the people it serves. That decision was the seed that grew into Tru Home Care.
But Teresa’s determination didn’t start in her nursing career — it began in her own childhood. Growing up in poverty, with a mother battling addiction, she sometimes faced homelessness and hardship. She had her first child at 17 and dropped out of high school. Yet instead of giving up, she fought harder. Working days and attending school nights and weekends, Teresa earned her nursing degree while raising her children, determined to break the cycle and create a better future for her family.
That resilience, grit, and compassion now define Tru Home Care. Teresa’s life has been about lifting others — her children, her patients, her staff, and her community. Today, Tru Home Care reflects her promise: to treat every client like family, and to give every caregiver the tools and support to provide excellent care.
About La'Toya Lewis
As the youngest of four children, La'Toya Lewis was accustomed to being cared for. Her older siblings took on the responsibility of looking after her, providing a foundation of stability and well-being that would later inspire her life's work. This upbringing instilled in her a deep desire to give back to others in a similarly meaningful way.
Driven by this sense of purpose, Lewis pursued a career in nursing. It was during her time working in nursing homes that she witnessed firsthand the consequences of understaffing. She saw how easily patients could be neglected and heard many express a deep longing to be back in their own homes, surrounded by their families and familiar possessions.
Lewis observed that many residents experienced a decline in health shortly after arriving, often suffering from a profound loneliness as family visits dwindled. She quickly realized the powerful impact of simple human connection; even a brief conversation could brighten a patient's day and give them something to anticipate.
These experiences solidified her calling. Lewis became determined to create a solution for elderly individuals to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes without sacrificing companionship or care. She envisioned a service that would offer not only physical assistance but also a vital social connection.
Together with her sister-in-law, Teresa Edge, RN, La'Toya Lewis founded TRU' HOME CARE.[1] They chose the name to reflect their genuine commitment to the well-being of every individual they serve. The mission of TRU' HOME CARE is to provide compassionate and dependable in-home care, enabling seniors to live with dignity and independence while receiving the meaningful interaction they deserve.
